Located near the heart of the Northern Territory’s Top End and close to the world-famous Kakadu National Park, Discovery Parks – Katherine (formerly Shady Lane Tourist Park) offers visitors the opportunity to explore the very best of the region while staying in quiet comfort amongst shady palm trees and friendly native birdlife. 

Only 6 km from Katherine on the road to the amazing Nitmiluk Gorge, this park offers a range of clean, modern accommodation options to suit holidaymakers exploring the region for the first time, or travellers passing through. 

Fully self-contained ground-level or elevated studio, one or two-bedroom cabins that can sleep up to 5 adults feature split-system air conditioning, ceiling fans, ensuite bathrooms, a Queen size bed, 2 or 3 ensemble beds in the second bedroom and a private balcony. They also include cooking facilities, a microwave oven, fridge/freezer, ironing board, hair dryer and outdoor furniture. All linen is also supplied. 

Budget Motel-style rooms with ensuite bathrooms are available here and can accommodate up to 3 adults on one Queen-size double and one King-size single bed. The park also has studio-style fully self-contained ground level wheelchair accessible cabins for up to 2 people. All cabin accommodation is well-maintained, cleaned regularly and comes with free Foxtel. 

The park has powered sites that are large enough to accommodate any size caravan, motorhome, campervan or tent. Campers here find it a great spot to enjoy the great outdoors and be social as there is abundant shade, free gas BBQs, a shared Campers Kitchen and spotlessly clean facilities. In addition, there are friendly staff who know the area well and who are more than happy to book tours and point out the best local attractions. 

Set amongst the cooling shade of tall NT palms, Discovery Parks – Katherine is well-maintained, clean and has modern new amenities including a large swimming pool for guests' relaxation. There is a fully functioning laundry on-site and a large communal BBQ area. There is a well-stocked Woolworths in the town of Katherine, meaning cooking for yourself in your cabin or in the communal Campers Kitchen is never a problem.  

Nearby attractions include some of the NT’s highlights including Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine Hot Springs, Edith Springs, Cutta Cutta Caves and the Katherine Outback Experience. The iconic Katherine Gorge is not to be missed and there are several scenic helicopter flights that operate in the area. The Katherine Musuem will uncover the unique history of the township of Katherine, while several Aboriginal Cultural Experiences, including ‘Top Didj’ will give you a unique insight into the rich and ancient Aboriginal cultural traditions of the NT. Why not take home your own custom-built didgeridoo or locally made piece of indigenous art?
