Discovery Parks - Kings Canyon
From relaxing by the resort pool or enjoying a drink at Kings Canyon Bar & Grill to exploring Watarrka National Park or walking the rim of the stunning Kings Canyon, Discovery Parks – Kings Canyon offers easy access to some of the Red Centre’s most iconic experiences.
Located at the very heart of the Red Centre, halfway between Uluru and Alice Springs, all major roads leading into the property are sealed, however alternative routes will require a 4WD.
A 2- or 3-day stay is recommended here and should always include the guided ‘Walk on the Wildside’ of Kings Canyon, followed by a relaxing dip in the resort-style pool or a favourite cocktail from Carmichael’s Restaurant.
Indigenous culture should also be front of mind here, so the Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience is highly recommended. This immersive one-hour tour is led by a member of the local Indigenous community, and will take you through bush tucker, language, and medicinal workshops, while explaining First Nation’s people’s connectedness to the land.
Powered and unpowered sites are available all-year round on the shaded grass. All guests get access to the amenities, which include several bars, restaurants, a convenience store, and petrol station. A front row ticket to the stunning star show that happens every night in the sky above comes free!
Lodge rooms designed with backpackers at front of mind are also available. These offer private and shared accommodation with shared kitchen and bathroom amenities. These rooms include bed linen, televisions, refrigerators and coffee and tea making facilities.
Live music, family-friendly games, and the chance to socialise with other travellers at the Kings Canyon Bar & Grill should not be missed, nor the chance to dine under a million stars and treat yourself to an intimate dining experience with the Under a Desert Moon experience – complete with seasonal menu to complement the region and surrounds.
Sunset drinks at the Luritja Lookout are also popular and if you’re really looking for adventure, there can be no better opportunity to take to the skies yourself. An 8, 15 or 30-minute helicopter flyover is your chance to experience uninterrupted and breathtaking views of Kings Canyon and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the rise and fall of the sandstone domes and geological diversity of the Red Centre at large.
Ensuite sites available for up to 5 guests and all guests have access to a communal BBQ area, laundry room and ablutions block, each designed to make your travel experience easier and blend in with the local surrounds.
Peak season at Discovery Parks - Kings Canyon is between June and September, so its especially advisable that you book online in advance if you’re planning on travelling then. This is one of the most picturesque campgrounds on the famous Red Centre Way.
