Discovery Parks - Emerald
Park features
Emerald, in the Central Highlands of Queensland, is the town boasting one of the riches sapphire fields in the Southern Hemisphere. This stunning, remote town, nestled as it is amongst lush green pastures and rolling countryside, is both a historic location and a gateway to the Queensland outback.
If you’ve made the 10-hour drive from Brisbane, you will be thrilled by the warm welcome you receive at Discovery Parks – Emerald. There are a range of accommodation options available for visitors, including neat and immaculately presented rooms, some with ensuites. There are rooms available for couples and solo visitors and travellers, as well as family rooms sleeping up to four people. All visitors are then able to visit the fantastic heritage style, licenced dining hall serving hearty meals, so everything you need is available to hand. The accommodation is suitable for temporary and long term visitors including tourists and local workers alike.
As well as the dining hall, the park has a laundry and an onsite gym so you can catch up on the washing and even enjoy a workout during your stay.
While visiting the area, you can try and catch the evening meal at the large Lake Maraboon which is only minutes from Emerald town. As well as fishing, there is also swimming and boating on the lake as well as the opportunity to walk and relax by the water. Or if history is more your thing you can visit the historical buildings in the town including the old Railway Station, the Pioneer Cottage Complex and Centenary of Federation Mosaic Pathway.
No visit to Emerald would be complete without a tour of the local sapphire mine, where you can try your hand at fossicking for one of the precious stones for which the place is famous. If you aren’t lucky, there are plenty of stones to purchase at the Heritage mine or in town so you won’t go home empty handed.
After a day exploring or a hard day working at the mine, you can return to Discovery Parks - Emerald where you can look forward to a good meal, a clean and comfortable room and a good rest. You can drift off, listening to the sounds of the outback, punctuated by the birds and wildlife bedding down for the night. Prepare for a holiday to remember.
