Fishing Spots

There’s something rewarding about catching and cooking your own fish, and that’s why fishing is one of Australia’s favourite pastimes. A fresh seafood catch cooked on the BBQ with a cold drink in hand watching the sun set over the water – it’s the stuff of true relaxation in the great outdoors and what fishing holidays are all about.

When it comes to Australia’s best fishing spots, we are as spoiled for choice as we are for coastline, with over 4000 species of fish in our waters and many that make for great eating. Take your pick of the best beach fishing, or explore the many rivers, lakes and waterways where you’ll find many plentiful local fishing spots to reel in the catch of the day. The biggest Australian sport fishing targets include Barramundi in WA, the NT and Queensland, Mackerel in the country’s northern waters, and several species of tuna in SA, Victoria and Tasmania. But there’s plenty more to choose from, including King George whiting, trout, snapper and silver trevally.

G’day Parks has locations in some of Australia’s premier fishing destinations, so whether you’re casting a line from the beach or boat, or heading out to deeper water with a chartered fishing cruise we have the best fishing spots covered. Many parks have direct beach access or boat ramps / jetties, which makes launching your boat a breeze. Some parks will hire fishing equipment, tackle and bait if you want to try your hand but not commit to a full suite of your own gear. Plus, park staff will be more than happy to recommend the best local hotspots to land a beauty, so come and say G’day on your next fishing holiday.
