Park Info
Located at the crossroads of NSW’s Barrier Highway and Kidman Way, the historic town of Cobar connects some of the state’s best road trip routes but is also a fantastic destination in its own right. Filled with rich mining history, scenic landscapes and cultural heritage, this friendly outback town is ideal for short stops along the road or as a base for longer stays exploring outback New South Wales.

Cobar Caravan Park is located close to the Cobar town centre and offers a range of accommodation including sites, motel-style rooms and self-contained cabins. Set over six spacious hectares the park boasts great facilities to support your stay including well-appointed amenities, fully equipped camp kitchen, BBQs and on-site kiosk for essential items.

For travellers arriving with the caravan, campervan, motorhome or tent, choose from powered and unpowered campsites, with grassed and concrete slab options. For larger rigs or those who prefer not to reverse the van, there are drive-thru sites available. And for those travelling with a four-legged companion, dogs are welcome on sites.

Self-contained accommodation options sleep two to four people ranging from motel-style rooms to one- and two-bedroom cabins. Motel rooms are perfect for short stays and include queen bed, kitchenette, ensuite and private balcony, while all cabin options are more spacious with full kitchen and bathroom as well as an outdoor deck. All self-contained accommodation has convenient parking on your doorstep, air conditioning for year-round comfort and free Wi-Fi.

Cobar has a rich mining history, being known for copper, gold, silver, lead and zinc. The Great Cobar Copper Mine was one of the largest mining operations in the world when it was established in 1870 and remains in active operation today.

Head to the Great Cobar Heritage Centre, a rural museum and great place to start your exploration of the town. Grab a map for the Cobar Heritage Walk, which takes about an hour and winds through the town’s historical attractions and Victorian buildings. Fort Bourke Hill Lookout is minutes from the town centre at the site of the town’s first gold mine. 300 meters above sea level it offers sweeping views of Cobar and beyond.

Lovers of the great outdoors will enjoy the region’s outback landscapes and wetlands bursting with birdlife, or making the day trip to spectacular national parks and conservation areas including Gundabooka National Park and the Yathong Nature Reserve. The Mount Grenfell Historic Site and Art Walk is worth the drive for ancient rock art and important indigenous heritage.

Much more than a stop along the road, there is much to enjoy about this slice of the outback so be sure to ask the staff at reception for their best local recommendations and for help with tourist attractions and bookings.
