Most people have heard of Cairns in Far North Queensland, however not everyone knows of one of the best kept secrets in the area.  Lake Placid and surrounds.  A tropical rainforest environment, near the World Heritage area of the Barron River National Park, Lake Placid is ideal for those looking for a more peaceful location when visiting Cairns.

Situated on 14 Lush acres, Lake Placid Rainforest Retreat is a great choice for accommodation & camp sites when visiting Cairns or the Lake itself.

One of the crowning glories of Lake Placid Rainforest Retreat is the range of well presented, Villas, Cottages & Cabins available.   All have had new split system Air Conditioners installed for the quieter stay. 

Choose from the newly renovated 2 Bedroom Rainforest Retreat Cottage (Queen & 2 Singles) Sleeps 4.  With private outdoor areas and backs onto the Rainforest.  Our spacious Reef Villas, that sleep 2 – Queen bed in separate room with open plan kitchen, dining, living. The Rainforest Retreat Cottage & Villas have BBQs on their verandas.   The cosy Cassowary (2 x Queen) & Kingfisher Cottage ( 1 Queen 1 Double)  2 bedroom, sleeps 4 with private outdoor areas .  For couples or single,  the Acacia or Daintree Bungalows provide more open plan living, these sleep 2 and are either Queen or Double.  The Kuranda Bungalow sleeps 3 with 1 Double and 1 Single.  The Barron Bungalows  for a longer stay (7-night min) sleep 2 have all the same features but NO ensuite.  

All Cottages, Villas & Studio cabins are not PET friendly.

Caravans, motorhomes and tents are all welcome at the Lake Placid Rainforest Retreat. The majority of our sites have a concrete slab with a small amount being grass only and they benefit from shady palms and trees.  There are 2 only ensuite sites offering more comfort and privacy.  The caravan and camping sites are dog – cat friendly and there is also free wifi.

Guests enjoy the lagoon-style shaded swimming pool.  Theres also a modern camp kitchen and BBQs, as well as a licensed café for some breakfast and diner treats.

Lake Placid Rainforest Retreat is minutes away from the Kuranda Scenic Railway and Sky Rail, take a ride and marvel over the forests from the world’s longest cable car.  Also, The Australian Amour & Artillery Museum is only a 5 minute drive away.
