Kilkivan Bush Camping is a true retreat, right next to a peaceful seasonal creek and surrounded by thriving nature.
Located near Gympie on historic gold rush country, the park’s large powered sites are a haven of flowers, birds, and local wildlife. Campfires are allowed (fire ban days excepted) and many powered sites come with their own fire pit. You can buy firewood from the on-site Fat Hen Café, along with coffee, ice creams, drinks, and ice (and while you’re there, swap a novel at the book exchange and DVD library). If you’d prefer to go off grid, there are more than ten acres of unpowered camping space for you to call home.
Alternatively, book one of their four-berth, air-conditioned glamping chalets or pet-friendly safari cabins with a private courtyard. These non-ensuite cabins are close to park amenities (including accessible and family bathroom options) where you can take a hot shower. Whether you’re travelling with a dog, bird, cat, or horse, all pets are welcome at Kilkivan Bush Camping.
When that trademark Queensland sun is shining, dive into the swimming pool (which has an accessible auto pool chair lift) or go swimming in the flowing creek at Picnic Corner. Kids will love clambering over the colourful playgrounds or riding scooters and pushbikes around the grounds. If you’re visiting on a public holiday, keep an eye out because the park frequently hosts special events with kids’ activities. Further facilities include a guest laundry, camp kitchen, BBQ area, dump point, and even a 200-seater function hall.
The heart of the park is the Aussie Bush Bar, which roars to life from 4.30pm onwards on Fridays and Saturdays. Grab a meal, beer, wine, or cocktail to enjoy in the beer garden as you meet fellow travellers. There’s a large TV screen so that you never miss the big game, playgrounds nearby for the kids, and a mix of open-air and undercover dining spaces to chill out no matter the weather. Saturdays are especially popular for Camp Oven Dinner and live music.
When it’s time to explore, there’s so much to see and do. Grab a helmet and cycle your bike along the Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail. Visit Kinbombi Falls or head into Gympie to see the town and ride the heritage Mary Valley Rattler steam train. History, art, and culture buffs will appreciate the variety of local attractions, including the Kilkivan Shire Museum, Mount Clara Smelter, Gympie Bone Museum, Woodworks Museum and Interpretive Centre, Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum, Gympie Regional Gallery, and the historic 1886 Dickabram Bridge (the state’s oldest road-and-rail bridge). Kilkivan is also less than 90 minutes from Noosa, if you want to spend a day in the Sunshine Coast.
Embrace the wonder of the outdoors and start planning a bush getaway you’ll never forget. The park is open 11 months of the year, with an annual closure in February to allow for regeneration, revegetation, and park maintenance.
