Tucked deep in Victoria’s spectacular high country, Licola Wilderness Village is where riverside calm meets wild alpine adventure. Set right on the banks of the Macalister River and roughly 4 hours from Melbourne, this hidden gem sits at the gateway to the breathtaking Victorian Alpine National Park, a region known for its towering ranges, fresh mountain air, and endless outdoor experiences.
This is not your average getaway. Licola is a place where groups come together, kids explore wide-open spaces, and nature takes centre stage. Owned and operated by the Lions Clubs of Victoria, the village has a proud 50-year history welcoming families, school groups, sporting clubs, faith communities, and travellers looking for something refreshingly different.
Accommodation includes 16 self-contained cabins designed for simple, group-friendly stays. Each cabin features bunk-style bedrooms, private bathrooms with hot showers, and a handy kitchenette with a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, and cutlery. Indoor and outdoor living spaces make it easy to gather, relax, and soak up the surrounds.
Outside the cabins, the village comes alive with shared BBQ and self-catering kitchen areas, a seasonal swimming pool (perfect for summer stays), a mini-golf course for friendly competition, and a fire pit area made for storytelling under star-filled skies (BYO wood).
More than a place to stay, Licola is an experience where the river runs close, the mountains rise around you, and every moment feels a little more connected to nature, adventure, and each other.
