A long weekend is a reason to celebrate but an extra long weekend is a reason to pack the van and hit the road to somewhere new. When you’re staying in park chances are a BBQ will be on the menu so here are our top tips to make sure your BBQ is less charcoal and more delicious!

1. Buy the right things

Before you hit the road plan what you’re going to want to cook up. Chops and sausages go great on the BBQ but some marinaded meats can burn too quickly when they hit the hot plate. Stock up on things that will be easy to cook and eat in park.

Top tip! If you’re making your own meat skewers, soaking the wooden skewers in water for at least 30 mins before using them will stop them from burning and charring.

2. Hurry up and wait

Wait for your BBQ to heat up before you throw your sausages on there! Putting on meat when you’ve first lit the barbecue will lead to scorched outsides and raw insides.

3. Don’t get distracted

You can’t manage a barbecue while you’re chopping things or looking for those bloomin tongs! Get all your sides and salads sorted and in their serving dishes, then cover and chill, if needed and be sure to put all your equipment within arms reach before you start cooking.

Top Tip! Make sure not to touch cooked food with utensils and plates that were used for raw meat.

4. Spice up your meat

Whether it’s veg or meat, it needs to be seasoned, either with salt and pepper or a special meat rub. There’s loads of great options so head to the supermarket and have fun with it.

5. Sit your meat down

Now that you’re done don’t rush into eating right away. After taking your meat off the grill, let it sit for a few minutes. This will help to seal in the juices and stop it from drying out making it delicious!

6. Cleaning Up

Cleaning up after your BBQ is never fun but if you can try and clean it while it’s still hot, it’s so much easier to remove any undesirables at this time rather than having to chisel off items from a cold BBQ. Your fellow campers will be appreciative!
