Adelaide: The Little City That Could, and Does
Technically, you can’t call it the City of Churches anymore, as it’s now the Festival State. To avoid confusion, we just tend to call it ‘Heaps Good.’
Perfectly placed between rolling hills, dozens of wineries, and a highly underrated stretch of coast, Adelaide doesn’t care about its reputation for being the more sleepy of the capital cities. In fact, locals will tell you it’s part of a plan to keep you away from their wine and pale ale, which they regard like a religious deity.
Whatever their motivations, it's worked. ‘Radelaide’ consistently ranks among the world's most liveable cities, and comes into its own during festival season, when events like WOMAD, the Fringe, and Tour Down Under appear to merge into one.
Otherwise, it’s all about long summer days, quality reds, and balmy nights. These generally begin around September and don’t usually end until the middle of May, when everyone's at the footy.
Adelaide, you really are heaps good.
