Nothing says ‘winter’ like snow season, and while Australia’s best known for its summer beaches, our high country comes alive every year in the coldest months.
Forget expensive hotels and chalets; G'day Parks has a wide range of comfortable and convenient locations with easy access to the snow and great deals to help you save.

The Snowy Mountains are home to Thredbo, a resort with trails as long as 6km and the largest vertical drop in Australia (672m). This ski-in, ski-out wonderland even has the Southern Hemisphere’s first ever year-round Alpine Coaster, and the European-style village has food and drink outlets, a leisure centre, and events like astronomy nights and the popular Saturday evening fireworks.

Kosciuszko National Park is also home to Perisher Ski Resort, the largest resort located in the Southern Hemisphere. Linking four areas (Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes, and Guthega), there’s 3,000 acres of varied terrain. While 60 percent of runs are intermediate, there are plenty of green trails for first timers at Perisher (as well as snowshoeing and tobogganing).
You've also got Charlotte Pass Snow Resort, the oldest and highest ski resort that’s great for learning the ropes, snow play, a kids' snowsports program, night skiing and snowboarding, and snowshoe and groomer tours. It’s a top spot for beginners to learn and intermediate skiers to have fun. Selwyn Snow Resort is another spot for visitors to take skiing and snowboarding lessons, create a snow angel, and enjoy Australia's biggest toboggan park.

Want to explore on your own two feet? Hike the Snowies Alpine Walk, and if conditions and fitness allow, climb Mount Kosciuszko for spectacular views over the snow-capped ranges. To slow down the pace, warm up at a spa or take the Yarrangobilly Caves Thermal Pool Walk, with the natural mineral water maintaining a balmy temperature of 27℃ for year-round swimming.
Where to stay?
Discovery Parks - Jindabyne is snow getaway perfection, with views of Lake Jindabyne. There’s no better place to watch the snowfall than from the comfort of their cabins.
They have a selection of two-bedroom cabins with fireplaces which are the pick of the bunch, with helpful features like double-glazed windows or a secure ski gear shed.
Every year, Buckenderra Holiday Village welcomes winter wanderers ready to hit the slopes or dip in the Yarrangobilly Caves Thermal Pools.
A self-contained Spa Cabin will get rid of the chill, whether you've been skiing or launched your boat straight off their in-park ramp onto Lake Eucumbene.

Every year, thousands visit Mount Buller for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, sled dog tours, and walks through snowy scenery. Beginners can master their craft on green runs, before moving onto blue terrain (45 percent of all runs), while advanced folks can head straight to the black runs (40 percent). Mount Buller’s sister venue, Mount Stirling, is also popular for winter sports.
For other fun activities, solve your way through the High Country Gardens Maze, watch a lion feeding at the Mansfield Zoo, go horse riding, or take a scenic 4WD trip to the famous Craig’s Hut (from The Man From Snowy River).
Where to stay?
