Golden Country Motel, Cabins and Caravan Park provides comfortable accommodation and a base from which to explore the historical gold town of Maryborough in Victoria, 58km north of Ballarat.

Maryborough is steeped in gold rush history and architecture after the gold field opened in 1853. The town has the longest train platform in country Victoria, built in 1874 as a major junction, and it is reminiscent of Spencer St Station in Melbourne. It so impressed American writer Mark Twain that he described Maryborough as a railway station with a town attached, declaring: “you can put the whole population of Maryborough into it with a sofa a piece and have room for more”. Visitors still come to admire the highly polished timber ceiling and beautiful tessellated floor in the main entrance. The grand red brick building featuring 25 rooms and a clock tower was restored in the 1990s and today is a museum, café and antique gallery.

Visitors meander through the region, taking in the charm of the grand old buildings and gold rush cottages, learning about the colonial past. Many try their hand at gold prospecting and you can take a gold tour and workshop, or visit Coiltek’s Gold expo and museum. It’s worth a visit to the Pioneer Memorial Tower (1933), built during the Great Depression largely of material from the old Maryborough Gaol, as it has fabulous views of the town.

There are also plenty of physical activities for the kids, with mini golf, laser tag, playgrounds and an indoor play centre at the Redhouse Bakery.

Golden Country Motel, Cabins and Caravan Park is just five minutes from the centre of Maryborough and has comfortable accommodation and an outdoor solar heated pool, open seasonally.

Accommodation ranges from air-conditioned motel suites with lounge, TV, linen, hair dryer and tea and coffee facilities to self-contained cabins and cottages, complete with kitchenette and outdoor dining areas. Some have wheelchair access to the shower and toilet.

There are also powered caravan and camping sites in pleasant surroundings, with access to a large, well-equipped camp kitchen, BBQ and laundry facilities. Each site has a private ensuite with a toilet and shower. There’s also a TV/library room if you fancy some escapist downtime.  There’s free WiFI across the park and the park is dog-friendly (although some conditions apply). The park offers breakfast packs and it is just 40 metres from the Golf Club with restaurant bowls/golf and pokies.
