Stansbury / Edithburgh

First stop is two and a half hours from Adelaide and located on the south eastern tip of Yorke Peninsula, Stansbury. Stay at Stansbury Caravan Park for absolute foreshore accommodation at Oyster Point. Fresh sea air, stunning sunsets and sunrises makes it the ideal spot for spending a few days on the water fishing for some of SA’s beautiful seafood. Famous for their fresh oysters, be a deckie for a day and pick them straight from the ocean on one of the oyster boating tours offered in the town. Make sure to visit the bustling Stansbury Seaside Markets that are held on the foreshore from October to March. Don’t worry if seafood isn’t your thing, relaxing on the sheltered beaches is the ultimate way to spend your day or wander along the Stansbury Coastal Trail and keep your eye out for the local dolphins frolicking in the waters alongside.

Alternatively, add an extra 20 minutes to your drive and stay at Edithburgh Caravan Park a popular tourist destination and known for it is excellent fishing opportunities. The park is an ideal base to explore the region and only 500m away from the town’s jetty. Cast a line off the jetty or beach and see what you can bring home for dinner. The park has excellent fish cleaning facilities to clean your catch. Then be the envy of fellow campers by cooking your own seafood-basket dinner in the camp kitchen. Pack your swimsuit, surfboard and snorkelling kit because swimming at Sultana Point Beach and the Edithburgh Tidal Pool is highly recommended. The town itself has a rich history and it’s the perfect place to get around on foot or cycle. The Edithburgh museum is a great place to start. If you work up an appetite, then head to one of the local hotels or cafes to quench your thirst and fill your belly.

Stansbury / Edithburgh to Moonta or Wallaroo – 1.5 hours

On your way to the next destination make a pit stop at Innes National Park, only an hour and a half on from Edithburgh. Known for its incredible coastal landscapes, rugged cliff faces and pristine beaches. Bushwalking is a popular way to discover the park, walks range from 30 minutes to four hours, most of the park is also accessible by 2WD so it is ideal for a day visit and a must-do when visiting this part of South Australia. Drive another two hours and you’ll arrive in Moonta Bay, a place to unwind, sit back and enjoy spending days by the water. Boaties can launch and are just about guaranteed a good catch in the waters of Spencer Gulf. Put on the walking shoes and walk along the beach to Port Hughes or South Beach, incredible swimming beaches and grab some delicious fish and chips on the beach.

Add on another 20 minutes and you can stay at Wallaroo Holiday Park, fronting onto one of the most beautiful beaches in South Australia. Wallaroo is a popular tourist destination when visiting the Yorke Peninsula so let this be your home away from home when you’re exploring the region. Don’t miss the historical mining sites, the Marina and Port including the great Wallaroo Jetty for fishing and diving or the town walking trail which will introduce you to the fascinating history of the area. The town has great food and shopping option, and we recommend visiting the Coopers Alehouse Restaurant for a delicious beer and fresh seafood. Alternately enjoy the beautiful views of Wallaroo Bay as you relax outside in our park with a drink and cook up a great meal in the well-appointed camp kitchens and BBQ areas.

Wallaroo to Port Broughton – 40 minutes

40 minutes up the road and you’ll hit the town of Port Broughton, situated perfectly for visits continuing onto the Flinders Rangers and Clare Valley. Port Broughton Tourist Park is located right on the bay and has great facilities and amenities to make your stay comfortable. Stroll along the foreshore and cast a line in the hope of catching some dinner for the night. The town is only two minutes away, which offers delicious food options for you to indulge, wander down to the beach and admire the spectacular sunsets on display each night.

Port Broughton to Rawnsley Park - 3 hours

Heading inland for the next stop, Rawnsley Park Station is three hours from Port Broughton and is out bush not by the coast. Connected to the Flinders Ranges National Park this is the ideal spot to explore, discover and experience more than 540 million years of timeless wonder and history. The park offers a beautiful bushland setting, surrounded by native pines and gum trees, giving you an authentic outback experience but with little luxuries to make your stay enjoyable. There is so much to see and do when visiting this region from ancient gorges with creeks and rockpools to incredible flora and fauna everywhere you look, keep an eye out for the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby bouncing around. Bring your sense of adventure as there is bushwalking, mountain biking, and 4WDriving trails galore! At the end of a long day, if you're too tired to cook, the acclaimed Woolshed restaurant is a mere 15-minute walk or five-minute car ride away.

Rawnsley Park Station to Clare – 3 hours

Time to make your way back home, but not without a stop to one of South Australia’s most renowned wine regions, the Clare Valley. Three hours and you’ll reach Discovery Parks – Clare the perfect base to explore this special region and located right near the town centre. The park is set amongst the gum trees and boasts with a relaxed country vibe but before you head out exploring take a dip in the heated swimming pool, a real treat. Hire a bike from the park reception and hit the iconic Riesling Trail, a 35km ride through the countryside, stopping off for food and cellar door experiences. If riding isn’t your thing, visit any of the 50 cellar doors and five-star wineries scattered throughout the region, be sure to try some of the world’s best Riesling. Buy a bottle from your favourite winery and put your feet up back at the park and pour yourself a drop whilst looking back on the photos you’ve snapped on your trip.
